Counting the Cost

Had no idea how to convey this.

It cost $95.00 to adopt a pet at the Wake County Animal Center ($10.00 off for Veterans). When you have to pay for something you value it more. I tried once to get rid of a litter of puppies. I know this sounds bad, I didn't know about animal shelter's at the time or if they even had them and have no idea why we didn't spade our dog. Did I mention I had four kids under the age of 8 and my husband was often away at a military school, training or deployed.  But I went to Walmart and put a sign that said free on them. There were five of them and they were really cute. I stayed for about two hours. Not one was taken. Some said ask for money and they will go quicker. I went the next day and within 15min. everyone of them was bought and I only put $10.00 on the box. When you show even the smallest amount of value for something or someone, others will too. Although there are situations where some see animals for commodity such as those who use them for fighting matches as expressed in Landfill page 90.

I believe this is more in what they make off the animal, not what they pay for the animal. By that I mean they are about the animal making them money, of what they pay or don't pay for an animal it is about them getting their "money's worth" or more out of the animal with little to no thought of the animal.

  2. Wow. That blew my mind. I think people get suspicious when a stranger is giving free puppies out at Walmart. Even though I know you personally, and you are a very nice lady, a part of me is always suspicious when something is free, even when the person is super nice and kind. An example would be a stranger offered me coffee. It was another Meredith student. The coffee was probably safe, but I couldn't bring myself to drink it. What if it had sugar or sweetener that I didn't want to put in my body? Maybe the same can be said of dogs. People trust when something has value.
